What Is Actually True
- Missouri Life ties the sightings to July 1972, with an earlier incident in the summer of 1971, and says storytellers confuse the two.
- A conservation agent led a three-hour search of 100 acres on Marzolf Hill and said he found nothing that looked like a monster.
- Missouri Life quotes the Department of Conservation as saying there is “absolutely no scientific evidence.” We did not read a Department page.
- The author concludes there is overwhelming evidence it was a hoax, though he thinks a witness likely saw something.
- We name no witnesses.
